PLC and Robot Programmers

Gohn Controls supplies quality PLC, HMI, and Robotics programming services to integrators and OEMs in the manufacturing industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create functional PLC and HMI Programs using mechanical and controls design and information, using Allen Bradley Studio5000, FactoryTalk View, Siemens TIA Portal, and Ignition

  • Develop and implement the communication and I/O interfacing between devices and systems

  • Download offline programs into the machinery and troubleshoot I/O, communications, and machine function

  • Develop a safety PLC program in accordance with OSHA, RIA, and CSA standards for the automated system to ensure proper function. Document results on safety checklists

  • Understanding of standard communication protocols between machinery and functionality of custom equipment (Ethernet, DeviceNet, IO-Link)

  • Identify deficiencies within the process and make the necessary adjustments for improvement

  • Work with customers, project managers, designers, millwrights, and electricians to solve problems

  • Commission the equipment at the customer location by testing the interfacing between equipment, setting up communications between devices, performing I/O checks, and completing unit tests

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering and/or sufficient industry experience and training

  • Minimum 2 years PLC experience in automation/custom machine build field

  • Preference given to those familiar with GM and Magna standards

  • Computer Expertise: Windows 10, Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of custom machine building and processes including welding, assembly, vision, laser, etc.

  • Ability to work openly in a team environment and communicate ideas and problems clearly to projects team

  • Strong ability to work with Allen Bradley Studio 5000 software, FactoryTalk View HMI development, Siemens TIA portal, and Ignition

  • Understanding of Ontario Electrical Code and Electrical Circuits

  • Knowledge of pneumatics and pneumatic circuit function

  • Familiarity with how the different systems interface to the PLC

  • Familiarity with common industrial networking protocols.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, RIA, CSA Safety Standards

  • Ability to travel for on-site commissioning (USA, Canada, Mexico)
